Happy Bird Day!

It’s World Migratory Bird Day and Global Big Day!

If you aren’t a birder, you might be confused, so I will explain: Global Big Day is an annual bird celebration where people are encouraged to go explore birdwatching, then submit their sightings on eBird, an international citizen science birdwatching platform.

I am a huge birder, and during physical distancing, I’ve been doing more birding than ever. It’s a great way to get some fresh air, exercise, reduce stress, and learn something new about the world around you. Even from your yard, there are always new birds and new surprises to discover! You’ll be surprised at what you notice when you stop to listen – whether it’s seeing your first tiny warbler or learning the name of a bird you see every day.

There are lots of resources available to help you get started exploring and appreciating birds. These are a few of my favourites:

World Migratory Bird Day: https://www.birdday.ca/

Cornell Lab of Ornithology: www.allaboutbirds.org/news/how-to-make-these-next-few-weeks-a-little-easier-courtesy-of-birds/

Resources from eBird: https://ebird.org/news/online-resources-to-enjoy-birds-from-your-home

Resources from Audubon: https://www.audubon.org/joy-of-birds

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some birding to do!
