Finding Rest: Unlocked Devotional

In a short moment, life can go from boredom and having nothing to do to a mountainous to-do list and an overwhelming, overflowing to-do list. We go, go, go, with no time to stop.

That’s how I feel about this transition time from summer to fall: At the end of summer break, I had seemingly endless time and struggled to find ways to keep myself entertained. I took the opportunity and edited my novel to my heart’s content, making great progress in writing and publishing plans.

Now back into a school routine, the pace has picked up suddenly. Days used to crawl by, and now we’re running through life in a sprint again. Creative writing is no longer a daily priority for me, it’s a treat for when I get through the rest of my to-do list.

When we have so much to do, how can we possibly take time to rest?

I think of it this way: when I’ve been working on writing for a while, I could push through and continue or take a break. I might still make good progress on my writing if I continue without stopping, but if I take a break, I find I can come up with better ideas and have a higher quality of work. That break recharges my creativity, and the rest gives me the energy to keep going.

Rest is a key Biblical principle—it’s more than a break; it’s a recharge. It’s necessary and healthy for us.
