Snow dusts the trees, and the ground is covered in white. Crimson cardinals and viridian pines contrast with a world frozen in stark black-and-white. Snowflakes glimmer against the bright blue sky and positively sparkle against the long moonlit nights.
Everything seems quieter. Peaceful. The world slows down around Christmastime.
Well, except for us people. We speed up the moment Christmas decorations appear in stores.
This time of the year can be stressful and busy, full of parties (or staying home) and socializing (or social distancing) and frantic gift-finding (or online shopping).
Other times, we can feel down and alone, remembering the challenges and losses we’ve experienced throughout the past year. 2020 has been exceptional for that.
At times, we can lose track of the true reason for Christmas.
“For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6 (NIV)
When I get overwhelmed with “Christmasing,” I love to listen to Christmas music, and “Christmas With You” by Cochren & Co. is one of my current favourite Christmas songs. It’s the kind of song that makes you stop to listen; eyes closed, swinging side to side as you hum along.
No matter what this season looks like for you, I hope you take this opportunity to slow down, connect with family and friends (virtually), eat delicious food, fill your house with home-baked goods, find ways to bless others, and celebrate the true reason for the Hope and Joy of Christmastime.
Merry Christmas!
