Purpose Beyond an Audience: Love Is Moving Article

The purpose of writing is to share truth and stories with others, and we write on blogs to build a community of readers. But what happens when we write for a purpose greater than an audience?

Being a Christian artist can be a challenging topic to explore, but in Love Is Moving magazine’s latest issue, a collection of writers and other artists share their experiences and what they have learned surrounding the idea of Christian Creativity.

For my piece, I chose to focus on my experience surrounding publishing. Rejection is hard, but it helps to make us humble and teachable. Ultimately, we become better, stronger writers through it. As Christian writers, we are called to a purpose beyond seeking an audience. Rejection has helped me focus on what really matters in my writing: using my gifts and passions to glorify God. I can do that whether my writing is accepted or not!

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

Hebrews 12:1-3
