Writing Playlist: To The Dreamers

When you feel it, once you see it, and you breathe it

It’s unforgettable

When you know it, once you know it, and you hold it

It’s unforgettable.

-for KING & COUNTRY, “To The Dreamers

Writing is a lot harder than it looks (surprise). There’s seemingly endless rewriting, rejection after rejection, and a growing list of things you want to write but are not sure you’ll ever find the time to write with all your current projects. Sometimes the “what if?” of a dream is instantly shot down as “impossible” or “too big.”

Every writer needs to find a time to refuel and to find inspiration in their way, and one of my biggest sources of encouragement is through music- and a ‘select’ (ok, extensive and expanding!) playlist of “Writing Songs.” I think it’s a great practice for any writer to put together things that encourage and uplift them to get in the creative mood and to remind them to never give up on their dream.

This was one of my first writings songs: for KING & COUNTRY’s “To The Dreamers.” The first time I heard it was at one of their concerts, and it blew my mind- the lyrics made it feel like they were singing directly to me at that moment, and every time I listen to it. Are you ready? Here it is:

*Instantly replays song, turning up the volume again.*

Every time I hear this chorus, I think of that feeling– like when you see your work in print, in the hands of a reader, when you hear someone laughing at that scene that always makes you laugh (and you wrote it)! It’s those moments that make me want to keep creating stories.

When I love a song, I really love it (can you tell?). So I’m looking forward to sharing more of my “Writing Playlist” in the future!
